I know that Halloween was 2 weeks ago, but creating cute masks (or crowns) for girls is always so fun and they will love it!!!This is a quick and easy project and I hope you will try it!:)
Needed supplies:
- paper template, download it HERE
- small piece of cotton fabric (fat quarter is more than enough): I used the gorgeous "Stardust Dusk" fabric from the Rock 'n Romance fabric collection by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery fabrics that inspired the mask template (it's shape comes from the design)
- small piece of fusible interfacing fabric (medium weight)
- small piece of elastic (depending on child's head), approx. 10-13"
- scissors and pins
- iron
- fray check sealant (optional, but recommended) to keep the edges from fraying
- punch pliers (optional, but recommended) to make nice holes
- 2 eyelets (optional, but recommended) to obtain cute looking and embellished holes
To start, you just need to download the template HERE , print and cut it
If you are using "Stardust Dusk" fabric like in this tutorial, be sure that you can find this particular repeat, as it's a perfect match for the mask's shape.
With iron, attach the fusible interfacing to the fabric
Pin the paper template to the fabric
Carefully cut the mask shape
Here you can decide if you will cut the holes for the eyes or you will just leave it as it is to be a crown
With punch pliers, make the holes (or if you don't have it, use some sharp tool to make the holes) on the marked circles
At this point, you can even attach the elastic and finish the project or you can embellish the mask a bit more by applying some eyelets (those I used are from Fiskars and are great and easy to use)
The eyelets should be punched from the wrong side
Now you can eventually add some sealant to the edges to prevent them from fraying
All you need to do now is to add the elastic (make the small knots from the inside, to keep it in place)
And you are ready to ROCK!!!:)
To customize it a bit, you can add some beads, feathers, flowers, ribbons etc. Have fun!:)This could be a great Marie Antoinette costume mask:)
