Retro robots and dinosaur fabric plush toys

My latest soft toys are finally sewn and I can't be happier with the results:) It takes a lot of time from uploading the design to Spoonflower till receiving the actual fabric, sewing and photographing it. But I love all the process stages (except the long shipping time). However, the moment that fills my heart with joy is when the toy is all finished and when I ask my kids for the opinion and ask them to choose some for themselves.





These robots are quite big, like 40 cm (16") tall and can be also cushions. I have managed to list some in my etsy shop and can't wait to make some more. And there are some Dino toys as well, all settled down already;)
They are created with my original watercolor artwork (that are available as variety of fabrics too) and have very nice, hand drawn texture.

Geek chic

This week we have a great new contest @Spoonflower, and there are many fabulous designs already! I was looking forward doing some more designs with mustaches and glasses, as some of my best sellers @Spoonflower are the designs featuring these geek motifs.

 

For this collection, I have envisioned designs that can be easily used for both genders. Firstly, I wanted to create something with Nikola Tesla in mind, one of the greatest Serbian minds ever. But, than I decided to take the different direction, and I combined hexies, letters, 2D bar codes, glasses, mustaches, maths and similar geek things. I wanted my main design to be some sort of the modern damask with those elements, but now (still haven't entered any design) I am just not sure. I think I'll enter some of the simpler designs, probably hexies. Here are the designs and the entire collection, that will be available for sale soon @Spoonflower.

My first quilt

I have finally finished my first quilt over the weekend. And I couldn't wait to take the pics of it!!!
So here they are...























I have to say that this first experience with making the real quilt and quilting was a very long learning process. My biggest mistake was to make all two sides in patchwork, which leaded me toward getting some not so nice quilting areas on the back of the quilt. I think that my sandwiching process was a bit wrong from the start, but now I now what to do next time. Another big mistake was to do some free motion quilting with bubble stitches doing some sort of pebbles first on the stripes (white calligraphy print) and only than to apply the meandering stitches to the larger patchwork areas. I thought that it would be easier that way, but now I know that I should always start from one corner, even if changing the free motion quilting designs. I have to say that E. Hartman's "The Practical Guide to Patchwork: New Basics for the Modern Quiltmaker" book helped me a lot while figuring out some things and I am strongly recommending it.



I also think that the best thing of the finished piece that makes quite a big difference with sewing garment pieces is the quilted texture. I just love the way it feels under my hand, the touch of it. It's precious. I just can't wait to make another quilt and to challenge myself with some new endeavors. Hope you'll like it too;)
