Cross stitched rose hoop

The progress made on my #pixelrose #cross-stitch #hoop. Hopefully it will be finished soon☺️ #aurifil #floss #embroidery #craft

During this Xmas period, we were visiting my husband's family in Italy.
It was the great opportunity for me to enjoy some spare time and do some stitchery.
I used my Pixel rose quilt pattern as guide to create this stitched piece.

Here is the finished piece:

Aurifil floss matching Recollection

I am not sure if I ever shared the stitched banner I did for my Recollection wall (for the Quilt Market in Houston), as that was the opportunity to get all the beautiful matching Aurifil floss.

This #cross #stitching piece is one that took most of my time ( more than quilt making!) and it was left unfinished , just partly done...but I was able to use all of the gorgeous shades of #aurifil #floss and it made me so happy

Here is the corner of the banner, unfinished (it took so much time to stitch and I had to send it over to US), that was the great excuse to attach the gorgeous wooden Aurifloss spools to it.

The image was previously printed on the cloth, and it gave me a good base for the cross stitching.
Hope that you feel inspired:)

Meet Noa!

Hello!!!

This has been as far my longest absence from blogging and I apologize for that.
Sometimes, I can hardly find the time to do the bare necessities and I can just hope that it may somehow be changed.
I have some very important exams to do regarding my PhD studies + finalizing new fabric collection, so it's taking a lot of my time, lately.

Other new thing in my life is that we have a puppy!
His name is Noa(h) and he is the cutest Golden retriever. The kids are so happy!!!The strangest coincidence was to discover that we share the same day of birth.
So, I will have a BD buddy ;)

Happy circle!!!😊 #RecollectionFabrics #AGF #ArtGalleryFabrics #KatarinaRoccella

My latest fabric collection Recollection is available everywhere and seeing all the amazing creations by other people, makes me very happy. If you are using flickr, please share yours in the Recollection fabrics Flickr group pool, as I would love to see them :)

Braided memories quilt along

Thinking about some sew-along with this block....anyone interested? I would make the free PDF template on my blog with a few versions? #recollectionfabrics #quilt #strips #xmas

Are you ready for the Braided memories quilt-a-long?
Well I am looking forward to it. :D
My Recollection line is arriving to the shops and I wanted to celebrate that with you.
For that occasion, I prepared a nice braided block-that can be done with strips (and scraps;) and you can download and print it HERE

This is the mirror image of what you will be getting on the back of the paper.

I always wanted to learn the paper piecing and I think that this block can be nice for the start.
I also think that it can be created with traditional piecing as well, so that will be my plan B ;) Recollection fabrics and matching Pure elements-solids can make nice fabric creations, appropriate for upcoming Holidays gift-givings.

I divided the block in 4 printable sheets in order to obtain one big block that can be used as it is for cushions, but can be also used with other additional blocks to make a quilt or table runner. The numbers on the block are showing the piecing order and the letters are showing the fabric placement.

I 've found this great tutorial on You tube, for those that, like me, are beginners.

Here are the fabrics I will be using (look at the block on the first picture of this post):

fabric A: pure element "coral reef"

fabric B: pure element "snow white"

fabric C: pure element "mirage blue"

 fabric D: pure element "nocturnal"

 fabric E: Fairisle Hearts greige

 fabric F: Bullion fronds rose

 fabric G: Flowered engrams ornate

 fabric H: Kilim Inherit shadow

 fabric I: Cuneiform script aged

 fabric J: Laced remains haze

And here are the versions of the block in  second colorway of the Recollection fabrics and in 2 variations in Indelible fabrics.

Here are some quilt mock-ups.....

Well, I hope that you feel inspired and that you are willing to join me on Instagram with your projects......just use the hash tag: #braidedmemories

Happy sewing!

Recollection at the Quilt Market in Houston

Now that the Quilt Market is over, I can freely share all the pics of my wall within the big Art Gallery booth (I didn't have the booth this time and I wasn't going), including mock-up and the real one.
So, the first picture above is the mock-up...and following is the picture of the booth, almost finished.

And the final version....

As you can see, that pixel rose quilt was a bit problematic to hang, as it was too large (way bigger than initially planned to be).

Here are some more pics of the items exposed (before sending them to US):

Can't wait to see your creations :)

This is as far my longest pause from blogging. I am so swamped with all the Quilt Market preps, that it seems that my normal life has gone.
But, I will be launching my second fabric collection with Art Gallery fabrics : Recollection and it keeps me excited and in stitches.

Introducing...RECOLLECTION

Before the full reveal- tomorrow , I am sharing one more peek to my second fabric collection #recollection and my favourite print inspired by some #tapestry pieces and woven #textiles #agfcomingsoon #artgalleryfabrics #katarinaroccella #recollectionfabric

The first preview at my second fabric collection with Art Gallery fabrics is finally here.
And I can not be more excited to be able to share it with you!!!
This collection should have been previewed during the last, Spring Quilt Market, but it was wisely decided to hold on and concentrate on launching Indelible, my debut collection, and save this one for later ;)
And I think that it was the great decision, as it would be too much on my plate at once. And I still didn't have the way to get any of my knits and voiles, so hopefully I will be able to play a bit with them before the advanced yardage of Recollection will appear.
Let me tell you a bit more about this collection, like I did with my first one.
And if you follow that previous link, you will discover and recognize many of the elements used in the Recollection .....like on this following picture.

As you can see, this leads back to 2008 and my first attempts to recollect inspiration, color story and create patterns for my fabric collection (named "Doily" back than).
And on the following pictures (fabrics printed through Spoonflower) you may be able even to recognize some of the artwork used in the Recollection.

Doily portfolio

Of course, the colors are changed and a bit even the designs, but this kind of ethnic appeal and elements were always very close to my heart.
I have always been attracted to doilies, laces and other vintage lovelies. I enjoy using them in artwork and like to contrast them with modern elements and materials in order to create something that embodies both fresh and vintage.

In love with the details!!!! #roses #tapestry #tradition #stitching #weaving #ethnic #dowry #inspiration #kilim #handcraft #craft #textiles #texture #heritage How amazing!!! Sorry for the reflex effect #ethnographic museum #tapestry #weaving #kilim #tradition #roses #stitching #weaving #ethnic #inspiration

Also, doilies hold a special place in Serbian tradition and culture, such as in traditional costumes which utilize various kinds of lace embellishments.  I was also inspired by kilims, which are the gorgeous shapes and patterns of Pirot, the southern part of Serbia.

Kilims are very geometric in form and in combination with floral lacy motifs and shapes create the perfect harmony for my “Recollection” line.  Culturally and historically, kilims are also used in very intricate needlepoint tapestries with beautiful roses. These have also inspired me to design some of the prints.

Additionally, with this line, I’ve tried to somehow evoke the old, fundamental textile techniques from rug weaving, tapestry, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, ikat.....something that through the centuries was passed from  generation to the generation, recollected - becoming a legacy or heritage that made our history and a history of the modern craftwork.

I must say that what helped with the textile techniques inspiration, were my classes during the first year of my PhD. I had the pleasure to be introduced to some of these techniques by my professor and hers assistant at the Faculty of Applied Arts and to learn a bit about the process of loom weaving.

When it was time to give to the collection the final name, I stumbled upon this quote by Waler Benjamin (one of the most influential contributions to aesthetic theory of the last century) and that was it!

#recollection

So here are the two colorways: the first is "Deep winterwoven" and the second, the lighter one is called "Mist moderknittie".

So happy to present you the "Deep winterwoven" palette of my #recollection #recollectionfabrics #agfcomingsoon #artgalleryfabrics

This is "Mist modernknittie", curious to know which one do you like best? #recollection #recollectionfabrics #agfcomingsoon #artgalleryfabrics #katarinaroccella

Which one do you like more?
Would love to hear your thoughts,
with love,
Katarina
